Being a photographer at The Cliff Hotel and Spa I find something new to fall in love with, and today, I thought I’d share some of that love…
One of my favourite wedding venues in West Wales is The Cliff Hotel and Spa, a renowned venue on Cardigan Bay. It’s one of the best places to get married with a stunning coastal view and a luxurious but laidback vibe. If you haven’t heard of it before, don’t worry – that’s why I’m here!
As a Pembrokeshire wedding photographer, I only live a short distance away from Cardiganshire, so it’s a venue I’ve been lucky enough to work at time and time again (I’m even a recommended supplier there.)
Straight off the bat, one of the best things about The Cliff Hotel and Spa is its location. It was originally built as a seaside destination to rival Brighton and Scarborough, but over the years it’s come to stand in a category all of its own.
Built on the beautiful clifftop (hence the name, you see what they did there?!), the views are second to none. In the summer, the sun sets over the sea and casts the most stunning light across everything. I’ve often seen Canadian geese fly past too, which is always breathtaking to witness.
You can either get married inside overlooking the views (more on that below), or you could opt to outside amongst nature. Either way, the surroundings are the perfect backdrop for a relaxed portrait session. This is both because they’re so gorgeous, but also because they’re so much fun to explore. Whether we wander down to one of the hidden coves on the prestigious Ceredigion Coast or take a stroll across the romantic clifftops, you’ll get some incredible shots from your wedding day.
Some people have gone for a morning swim in the sea before getting ready to get married. I was even lucky enough to once capture a dolphin in the bay, whilst the groom was doing the final preparations for their outdoor ceremony!
As a Welsh wedding photographer, I get asked about bad weather a lot. And of course, I totally understand: having to have a Plan B can be additional stress you don’t want during your wedding planning.
However, if I could impart any wisdom on you for your wedding, it would be to just embrace it. Having photographed a lot of weddings at The Cliff Hotel and Spa where it’s been raining and blowing a hooley, and it really just adds to it! The sea is rough and dramatic, the clouds are dark and atmospheric…if you take it in your stride and have fun during your photos, you’ll always get the best photos regardless of the weather.

As jaw dropping as the outdoors is, the indoors at The Cliff Hotel and Spa is pretty bloomin’ remarkable too. (Plus, you can have the best of both worlds: The Ballroom, Island Bar and Private Terrace area all enjoy panoramic sea views across Cardigan Bay.)
Using hidden sliding walls, the layout of the events spaces is totally customisable depending on your plans. This means it’s just as perfect a super versatile wedding venue, just as perfect for guest lists of 150 as it is for cosier groups of 10. And despite its size, The Cliff Hotel and Spa feels totally intimate and welcoming: there are personal touches throughout the interior design of the building itself, including work by local coastal artists, being a photographer at The Cliff Hotel and Spa is always an absolute treat!
So that’s the hotel bit of a wedding at The Cliff Hotel and Spa – what about the spa bit?! Continuing this theme of total relaxation, all guests staying at The Cliff Hotel and Spa are offered complimentary use of the spa facilities onsite, including a hydrotherapy pool, a steam room, a sauna, and a menu of treatments including body wraps and massages. If you book one of the luxury suites for the night before, you can also enjoy the private jacuzzi to chill out!
In addition, they offer a number of bridal party packages and specific pre-wedding treatments for the night before the wedding.
Whether you’re focusing on cocktails and canapes or a huge multi-course feast, the food and drink are a central part of your wedding day.
That’s why the team at The Cliff Hotel and Spa have a flexible approach to catering, with a wide range of menu ideas to cater to your requirements. This isn’t just for the delicious food, either – they can knock up a variety of reception drinks, whatever your tipple of choice!
And whilst we’re on the subject, the team at The Cliff is amazing too. Especially Laura and Rebecca, the wedding co-ordinators. I’m always having a quick giggle with them when we run past each other on wedding days!
If you’re dreaming of a full weekend wedding because you’ve got guests travelling from afar – or just because you want to show off the full beauty of West Wales, and who could blame you if that was the case? The Cliff Hotel and Spa is ideal. With 76 ensuite bedrooms – including rooms with balconies and private hot tubs – pretty much your whole guestlist can stay over and keep the revelry going for longer.
It also means you can get your honeymoon vibes going straight away, and enjoy the peace and tranquility.
